SISTERHOOD, SOLIDARITY, SERVICE

Fabian Exec Committee Elections 2023

It is an incredible privilege to be the chair of the diverse, dynamic, nationwide sisterhood of women that make up the Fabian Women’s Network. I continually learn so much from our insightful, compassionate, hard-working FWN executive committee and FWN members. We are at an exciting moment in our journey with a well-established mentoring scheme going from strength to strength. Our current FWN executives are working on a packed programme of policy work we look forward to realising. We are striving to be a welcoming place, an anti-racist, intersectional feminist network. There are many opportunities and huge potential in FWN. Will you join us to support more diverse women in politics and public life and influence policy to the benefit of sisters everywhere? We are entirely run by volunteers, so please consider serving other sisters and standing for our executive committee.

In sisterhood,
Marianna

Chair Fabian Women's Network

In line with our constitution, members of FWN are now invited to nominate themselves for election to the committee. We strongly encourage members to consider standing. Nominees should submit a statement in support of their nomination of not more than 100 words, including information about themselves and their activities within FWN or the wider Fabian family and what tangible outcomes for FWN they would hope to achieve in the role. Please write 'FWN committee member' in the subject line of the email and send your statement to membership@fabians.org.uk by 9am 5th September 2023. This deadline will be strictly adhered to. There are 12 elected places on the FWN executive committee and other women are co-opted as needed. The term runs from early December 2023 until November 2025.

The AGM of FWN takes place in early December 2023. The elected members of the incoming committee are formally appointed, and any co-options are made at the AGM. The five officer roles (Chair, 2 x Co-Vice Chairs, Secretary and Treasurer) are open to anyone among the 12 incoming committee members. In the event that more than one person wishes to fulfil a role, there will be an election at a meeting of the executive prior to the AGM.

FWN election timetable
Candidates have to submit their statements by 9am on 5th September. The executive committee ballot will take place between 15th September 2023 and 20th October 2023 and is open to all self-identifying women who are members of the Fabian Society. Results will be announced at or shortly before the main Fabian Society AGM on Wednesday 8th November 2023 at 7pm

New Publication

Solidarity, equality and opportunity: creating strong social justice systems for women

Solidarity, equality and opportunity: creating strong social justice systems for women was released at the 2022 Labour Party Conference

In summer 2022 Fabian Women’s Network (FWN) ran a series of invite-only roundtables with shadow ministers, Welsh government ministers, police and crime commissioners, experts by experience, academics and charity sector experts looking at women and the justice system. Each took a topic to consider in detail to generate ideas for policy; these are discussions are being converted to visual outputs and are a partner piece to this booklet.

The roundtables focused on women, justice and: violence against women and girls; their children; housing; welfare and work; health.
