A new economy: “Inclusivity in action”

1-1196597456eowfp

“Inclusiveness and growth are not mutually exclusive but a complement of one another.” –  Joseph E. Stiglitz, economist and Nobel laureate

Inclusive growth aims at economic growth that creates opportunity for all segments of the population and distributes the dividends of increased prosperity, both in monetary and non-monetary terms, fairly across society. A goal we are far away from in the UK and indeed across the world.

With this event we would like to contribute to the discussion how an inclusive economy can be achieved. Growth and productivity are only two aspects of this matter, it also raises questions around education, health and sustainability, to only mention some. With the British exit from the European Union, a new economic model for the UK will have to emerge.

Join a Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung London and Fabian Women’s Network roundtable discussion to hear perspectives from policy-makers, business, think tanks, academia and civil society , which will contribute to shaping the debate around a new progressive economic model, based on the belief that only shared prosperity is sustainable prosperity.

Some of the questions we will be discussing are:

  1. How could an inclusive economic model look like? How would the structure of the economy need to change? What would it mean for our understanding of prosperity?

  2. What indicators should be looked at for policy-making?

  3. How would a more inclusive economy change work-life dynamics?

  4. How to ensure that “inclusive growth” also benefits different groups and minorities of society?

  5. What are practical next steps for reform?
